As a rule, the successful development of one or several company towns and old industrial areas and the measures that led to success are considered. It is relevant to study a little-researched phenomenon — unsuccessful, abandoned company towns in developed foreign countries. In the context of applying foreign experience to Russia, it is necessary to compare the historical path of development of company towns in Russia and foreign countries. In the foreign experience of support, it is advisable to identify alternative known ways of supporting company towns, as well as to consider in more detail the causes of the decline of city-forming enterprises, the reasons for the successful re-profiling of the territory or its decline. The analysis of these trends will allow us to place the development of domestic and foreign company towns in the right factor space and suggest new ways of developing company towns, taking into account the conducted research. The study used domestic and foreign sources of scientific literature about the development of single-industry towns abroad and in Russia. To assess the historical development of foreign monotowns, websites, information portals on the development of foreign territories, and national registers of historical places were used. To assess the development of the city-forming enterprises of the old industrial territories, data from foreign business publications were used. The main methods in the study were comparative, comparative analysis, historical-chronological method, analysis of literature sources, media analysis, content analysis of documents on the development of companies-owners of city-forming enterprises.","PeriodicalId":255412,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Review.
