Abstract

Centrifugal compressors are used in a multitude of industrial applications, and their reliable operation is critical in all fields. In order to enhance stability, different methods are available to suppress surge, one possible solution is recirculating air from compressor discharge into the blade passage to control blade load distribution. This paper has the aim to investigate the effect of surge suppression holes on the stress distribution in a centrifugal compressor impeller hub. The authors have conducted a conjunct fluid dynamics and structural stress survey to explore the different loads acting on the impeller under various cases including maximum flow as well as near surge condition.
