Abstract

The finite element method allows numerical solving of Maxwell's equation for given geometry, magnetic properties and boundary conditions. To model the writing process in magnetic recording, one has to compute the change of magnetization in the media when applying a writing field and moving the media. This time dependant problem is considered as a succession of magnetostatic states with step by step motion of the media. For each step of time, the flux distribution is determined using the vector potential A formulation and including hysteresis.
