Abstract

The carbon dots (CDs) blended ZnAl2O4:Eu3+ composite was prepared by adding the CDs solution to the precursor during the sol-gel process. A spectral overlap between the photoluminescence (PL) of the CDs and PL excitation of the phosphor was observed. Excitation energy could be effectively transferred from the CDs to the phosphor for emission. In addition, the CDs functioned as a flux, which improved the crystallinity of the phosphor and resulted in enhanced red emission.
