Abstract

Tyre-road contact noise or rolling noise is the main source of road traffic noise. In order to reduce this noise, the optimisation of road pavements is a priority. Before that, physical phenomena responsible for tyre-road noise generation must be known. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the models for predicting tyre-road noise. Then, the experimental methods for measuring tyre-road noise are presented. Finally, a review is made of the low noise road surfaces, their formulation, their use and their interest for road traffic noise reduction.
