Abstract

Both power usage and power rates have increased such that in many North American and European cement plants, the cost of electricity is not higher than the cost of fuel. As a result, many technological innovations have to combat this trend. An overview of these advances is provided. All of them feature ways to reduce specific power usage in the cement industry. Specific topics addressed include electrical power management, gas handling and pneumatic systems, motors and transmissions, and comminution and separation.<>
