The input-output characteristics of a generator produced highly non-linear leading so its challenging non-convex and non-smooth optimization problem. In this paper, combine QP and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to solve economic dispatch with valve point effect. The initial PSO population is obtained from the QP.
