Abstract

In recent years, topology optimization method has attracted a lot of attention to develop high performance electro-magnetic devices and various kinds of design strategies have been reported. Function expansion based topology optimization developed for design of photonic devices has been used successfully in the design of a variety of photonic devices. On the other hand, when applying this method to NRD guide devices, an appropriate initial solution is often required to find optimal solution due to the multimodal nature of an objective function. In this paper, we combine the function expansion method and the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES) for robust and efficient design of NRD guide devices.
