Saat ini di era globalisasi pendidikan karakter memiliki tantangan yang lebih besar karena generasi muda mulai mengalami penurunan moral. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana strategi sekolah dalam menerapkan karakter mandiri dan disiplin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara dalam strategi penanaman karakter mandiri dan disiplin melalui metode pembiasaan di SMPN 3 Peterongan Kabupaten Jombang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan menggunakan teknik pengambilan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Observasi digunakan untuk mengamati lokasi penelitian, gambaran lokasi penelitian serta kondisi lingkungan sehingga peneliti bisa menentukan subjek dan fokus penelitian yang akan diambil. Wawancara mendalam digunakan untuk menggali informasi ke beberapa informan dengan kriteria tertentu oleh peneliti. Teori yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu Operan Conditioning oleh BF Skinner yang memuat mengenai respon tingkah laku peserta didik dapat dipengaruhi stimulus sebelumnya yang melibatkan pengendalian konsekuensi. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi dalam membentuk karakter peserta didik melalui beberapa tahap. Pertama tahap perencanaan pendidikan karakter mandiri dan disiplin di SMPN 3 Peterongan dengan melakukan penanaman pendidikan karakter melalui intrakurikuler, penjadwalan sarana dan prasarana serta reward dan punishment. Kedua tahap implementasi pendidikan karakter melalui pengembangan diri di SMPN 3 Peterongan dilakukan dengan pengembangan diri melalui ekstrakurikuler, pengembangan diri melalui 3S serta pengembangan kelompok kerja (Pokja).Kata Kunci: Pendidikan karakter, Pembiasaan, Mandiri dan disiplin \nAbstractCharacter education is currently an important point to be developed for students because character education can reflect a person's behavior and actions. Currently, in the era of globalization, character education has a bigger challenge because the younger generation is starting to experience a moral decline in a worse direction. The problem in this study is how the school's strategy in implementing independent and disciplined characters. This study aims to find out how to develop independent and disciplined character strategies through habituation methods at SMPN 3 Peterongan, Jombang Regency. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, using data collection techniques using observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Observation is used to observe the research location, description of the research location and environmental conditions so that researchers can determine the subject and focus of research to be taken. In-depth interviews were used to dig up information to several informants, the informants had been determined with special criteria by the researcher. The theory used in this study is Operant Conditioning by BF Skinner which contains the behavioral responses of students that can be influenced by previous stimuli which involve controlling consequences. The results of the study indicate that the strategy in shaping the character of students goes through several stages. The first stage is planning for independent and disciplined character education at SMPN 3 Peterongan by planting character education through intracurricular, scheduling facilities and infrastructure as well as reward and punishment.
