Abstract
Solid-state lighting is based on short wavelength nitride-based light emitting diodes (LEDs) or laser diodes (LDs), that can produce white light. Presently, nitride-based LEDs have efficiencies exceeding those of incandescent light bulbs and most likely, will surpass those of fluorescent lights in the near future.
