Towards the Implementation of the Best Practice from Abroad – Strengthening the Cooperation Among Slovak Municipalities

Abstract

Abstract Intermunicipal cooperation represents a tool for facilitating the delivery of services for municipalities. The intermunicipal cooperation is used by many European states, struggling with fragmentation of local structures. In Slovakia, the intermunicipal cooperation is used rather for unnecessary delivering of competences which cannot be delivered by a single municipality. Therefore, in this article, we aim to address the best practices from selected countries to the conditions of Slovakia. The research includes the attitudes of mayors from responded municipalities in the Nitra region toward extending the cooperation with other municipalities and preferable areas for cooperation.
