Abstract

This paper briefly describes how Bell Canada is modernizing its access network to support narrowband, wideband and future broadband services through the Building Fiber Access (BFA) thrust. BFA will be realized via the deployment of fiber remote terminals in both single and multi-customer buildings having service requirements over 300 lines, in heavy business areas, industrial parks, university campuses and residential complexes. This paper focuses on capabilities and key design requirements for a fiber remote terminal which satisfies the customers' expectations with regards to service flexibility, quality, reliability and responsiveness while allowing major simplification in terms of network operations, administration and maintenance (OA&M).
