Abstract

This paper focuses on the use of the three-point IpDFT algorithm to track the variation of the power system frequency and use this estimate as a sampling clock frequency of the Analog to Digital converter of the PMU (phasor measurement unit). This new approach improves the accuracy of the synchrophasor that is based on the joint application of the Modulated Sliding DFT and the Taylor’s series expansion. The accuracy requirements of the IEEE Std C37.118.1™-2011 and its latest amendment IEEE Std C37.118.1a™-2014 under steady-state and dynamic environments are analyzed and discussed.
