Abstract
At a time of economic growth in Ireland, the declining numbers of students enrolling in the sciences is emerging as an educational concern. Using a 2002 Government of Ireland commissioned report on science: The Task Force on the Physical Sciences (TFPS) as a guide, this article examines initiatives aimed at promoting science education in relation to recent social, philosophical, economic and cultural changes in the Republic of Ireland.
