Abstract

Solid-state transformers (SSTs) can provide various advanced functions to support the stable, flexible, and resilient operation of modern power grids. To enhance the power rating and the controllability of SSTs at the distribution substation level, a hybrid SST (HSST) is proposed recently where the line-frequency transformer (LFT) is combined with the SST to process the major power flow while the SST section supports advanced grid control functions. In this paper, the voltage regulation and the power flow regulation control functions of HSST are developed by using discrete-set model predictive control (MPC).
