Abstract

The authors describe a family of diesel engines having high specific output per unit of cylinder displacement. They briefly cover the design characteristics of the engine and discuss how computer-predicted performance compares with measured data. They also highlight the problems associated with high-output engines in connection with the application of the load and evaluate some techniques to improve the situation. It is concluded that the design concept of the 6, 8, 12, and 16 cylinder turbocharged and charge-cooled engines leads to a cost-effective and technically advanced engine that will fulfil the needs of the telecommunications industry.<>
