Abstract
In facility infrastructure companies, factories, hospitals and towns without their own generators, transformers are important step-up and step-down devices in power transmission systems. Transformer users often face challenges including how to reduce human maintenance of transformer maintenance, transformer temperature, obtaining real-time operating data, remotely monitoring transformers, or data collection and analysis. However, this study develops a low cost system for monitoring the status of remote distribution transformers using GSM technology. The system performance was modelled and simulated at different transformer loads. The system was able to activate the cooling system case of over temperature, switch of the transformer in case the problem still persists and sent a message to the user via short message service (SMS). This research realizes intelligent monitoring at a low price, which is an important value and contribution.
