Abstract
Emerging power system will be operationally efficient with greater impact of demand side management; which with self-automation will allow flexibility of operations due to ease of reconfiguration of the network, prompt detection of faults and efficient dispatch of network resources. This paper presents the inherent structural characteristics as a more appropriate alternative to the traditional load flow methods for solving problems in this type of power system. To demonstrate this, the problem of transmission dispatch and network reconfiguration to enhance the security and minimize system losses during occurrences of critical outages is investigated. A load flow analysis approach is compared with one based on inherent structural characteristics theory.
