Abstract
A paper exploring various methods of assessing the quality of optical images (e.g., based on resolution), proposes that the optimal critierion is an informational one—image entropy, or the maximum possible quantity of information conveyed by an image per unit area. The authors support this assertion formally by presenting the corresponding expressions used in computing this criterion.
