Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors influencing pregnant mothers to give birth by cesarean section without medical indication. This research is analytic with a cross-sectional study approach. Data were collected by survey method. This research was conducted at the Regional General Hospital dr. Zainoel Abidin in 2014. The population of this study was all pregnant mothers, with a total sample of 399 people. This study used univariate, bivariate, and multivariate data analysis using Chi-Square. The results showed that 60.7% of pregnant mothers chose to give birth by cesarean section without medical indication. In this case, the factors influencing the pregnant mother include a history of giving birth by cesarean section (p = 0.010) and education (p = 0.000). The most dominant variable is education (OR = 2, 499), which means a 2.5 times greater chance of a pregnant mother choosing to give birth by cesarean section without medical indication. Therefore, it is recommended for pregnant mothers and their families to increase their knowledge about giving birth by cesarean section. In addition, pregnant mothers should choose to give birth by cesarean section with a medical indication.
