Abstract
Smart cities require intelligent transportation systems where the communication is based on edge/fog/cloud computing. The deployment of 5G is expected to play a crucial role in the new infrastructure and services. This paper presents a use case to illustrate the concept of network function virtualization, as a new paradigm in designing the telecommunications networks. The idea is to implement an overlay network between vehicles and the cloud, based on distributed Docker containers, orchestrated by Open Baton. This solution uses TOSCA YAML as data model and descriptor language. The performance of the container-to- container connectivity was evaluated with iPerf. Following the successful automatic deployment of this infrastructure, the future work would be to offer services running in these containers.
