An approach for interactive television based on insertion of hypermedia information in MPEG standard video

Abstract

The idea reported in tliis paper implements an approach to transmit complementar?. infonnation about the content being wotched in a digiral video coded in Moving Pictures E.rperts Group (MPEG) staridard format. This new kitid of media is defined as h>lpervideo. Tlie great iririovation tlie concept of Iiypenjideo brings is the possibilic to associate different complementan infonnation ahmrt the objects shown in scerie. Tlie association behveen complement~i~ nformation and video is made by embeddiq li?perlinks (references) into the bnage being transmitted, allowing the user to uccess such ififonnation by clicking in an area of the iniage being watched. This is an innovative appmacli for interactive television in the sense that it admits tlie association of video arid coiite.~t serisitii~e infomiation.
