Abstract

Switching operation associated with PWM control introduces nonlinearity in a DC electric drive. That leads to different nonlinear phenomena in the system, including multi-stability, i.e. the coexistence of multiple stable regimes for the same set of parameters and inputs. In terms of the theory of dynamical systems, the trajectory is attracted to one of the asymptotic sets (attractors) representing one of the stable modes. In the current study, we discuss several possible scenarios of the system’s behavior related to the unpredictable nature of tipping from one attractor into the other due to noise and disturbances.
