Abstract
This account of a thirty-five year-old legally blind man who suffers from retarded ejaculation discusses a number of issues concerning the pathogenesis and treatment of this dysfunction among blind men. The problems involved in living from birth with limited vision often result in difficulties in the separation-individuation process and in the establishement of a solid sense of self. The distortions of psychological development resulting from the existence of a visual impairment may well give rise to a sexual dysfunction. Treatment of this man included intrapsychic, systems and behavioral methods which furthered the separation-individuation process and enhanced his self-esteem. The resulting psychological growth led to the client's greater sexual enjoyment. This case study suggests that an understanding of the specific deficits which result from different physcial impairments may aid mental health professionals design programs for the prevention and treatment of sexual dysfunctions in disabled people.
