Based on the result of research, the reseacher found that the teachers who teach English subject at Junior High School at SMPN 1 Langsa disagree with the abolishment of English subject at Elementary Schools. There were many students who had less motivation and difficulties in learning English at Junior High School level and the lesson starts from the beginning level. Abstract

The title of the research is “English Teacher’ Perception on the Abolition of English Subject at Elementary Schools and Its Implication for Students at SMPN 1 Langsa”. The aimed of this research were to find out English teachers’ perception on the abolishment of English subject and its implication for students’ ability in learning English at SMPN 1 Langsa. 本研究的题目是“英语教师对取消小学英语科目的看法及其对Langsa小学英语课程学生的启示”。本研究的目的是了解英语教师对取消英语学科的看法及其对学生学习英语能力的影响。本研究采用定性方法。数据收集采用观察法和半结构化访谈法。本研究以两名英语教师为研究对象,共30名学生参与了SMPN 1 Langsa的七年级学生。根据研究结果,研究者发现SMPN 1 Langsa的初中英语课教师不同意废除小学英语课。在初中阶段,有很多学生学习英语的动力不足,学习困难,课程从头开始。结果表明,小学英语科目的取消对小学七年级学生的英语学科能力有影响。
