Abstract

We present an experimental test bed framework for pipeline intrusion monitoring which consists of distributed acoustic sensing deployed on a six core commercial unlit fiber-optic telecommunication infrastructure (dark fiber) laid along the pipeline for intrusion monitoring of both near-surface soil and in-depth intrusions. The framework was subjected to different types of intrusions (like heavy excavator movement, digging, axing, walking) and detection of these events through commercial Phase - OTDR is reported.
