Abstract

Various factors influencing the propagation of metric waves in the presence of ground are discussed with special regard to the zone of field oscillations near to the source. Theoretical considerations are illustrated by computer-generated graphs showing how the received field depends on polarization, distance, frequency, soil parameters, antenna height and vertical directivity. In conclusion the impact on radiated measurements is considered and the reasons for discrepancies in vertical measurements commented.
