Elite Reflections

Abstract

This chapter carries out and reviews elite interviews conducted in Taipei during the fall of 2015 and the summer of 2016. It notes that these meetings are introduced in summary form with regard to time, place and representativeness. With the material from those dialogues, the chapter facilitates the reassessment of the conventional wisdom identified in the preceding chapter and reflects support for the construction of the diagrammatic approach. The content of the interviews is assembled inductively under a set of themes — the 1992 Consensus, Sunflower Movement and other headings. By presenting the analysis and synthesis of the interview content, the chapter follows and points towards an intricate set of connections for Taiwanese identity and a range of other variables.
