Abstract

A technique for polygonal approximation is presented in this paper which incorporates high-speed corner detection and freeman chain code. A set of corner points of digital image is examined in order to construct polygon vertices which describe approximated contour of the digital image. Further, we construct the approximated polygon in the form of a string of ordered line segments using those corner points. The line segment is represented using 8-connected neighbor freeman chain code. The approximated polygon of the digital image further can be used in the shape representation and analysis domain, as contour description of the digital image.
