Abstract

A new system-level RF desense characterization technique is investigated to assess platform noise in mobile computer systems. The technique uses a highly tuned antenna probe that provides 8-dB higher noise detection sensitivity in Wi-Fi band of interest than conventional near-field probe technique. This characterization technique is validated with mobile PC system and demonstrates accurate spatial RFI noise distribution. In addition, the low-RFI regions are identified and show improved Wi-Fi throughput performance.
