Abstract
This paper presents a computer-based learning system for power system operators which is intended to assist human understanding of complex phenomena. In the educational environment , the authors focus on three perspectives of understanding: theoretical; empirical; and intuitive understanding. The system has a hypertext database, a powerful simulation environment with direct manipulation and various visualizations of power system phenomena, to support operators' understanding. The authors introduced this system into class lessons in power system education courses and analyzed subjective evaluations from both the tutor and students. The system is considered to be effective for practical use in the educational environment.
