The JPEG discrete cosine transform is then used to reduce the image size in the frequency domain. These two successive compression processes combine to form a powerful image compressor. Abstract

This paper proposes a new image compression technique based on successive application of a 2-D single-sideband analysis/synthesis system and the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) discrete cosine transform (DCT) lossy transform coder.
