Abstract

The design and implementation of a closed loop speed controller for a variable reluctance motor (VRM) is presented. A proportional plus integral (PI) control approach is used. The control approach is developed to operate at minimum drive losses and to allow the controller to follow large changes in speed required as well as load disturbances. The controller shows stable operations in all real-time testing conditions.
