Abstract

Waste heat recovery using desalination system is one of the current techniques particularly in the power plants where located in coastal regions. This paper is mainly about analysis and optimization of a multi effect desalination (MED) system. An energy and exergy analysis is conducted and effect of different operating parameters such as number of return effect, number of effects, motive steam temperature, and motive steam pressure are studied. Two different criteria are under evaluation: Gain output ratio (GOR) and exergy efficiency. Finally, an optimization is performed and exergy analysis considered to be maximized.
