Abstract

In the recent years, due to the rapid increase in population, the energy demand and energy consumption have increased tremendously leading to increased stress on the grid. The increase in energy consumption has led to higher electrical energy costs. Energy utilization from renewable sources is an effective method of power generation with lesser environmental impacts. Thus, the more usage of non-conventional energy such as solar helps in reducing the electrical energy cost in the building and also reduces carbon footprints in the atmosphere. Energy Management Controller (EMC) in buildings introduces a sophisticated method for monitoring and controlling buildings energy requirements. This paper proposes to minimize the cost of electrical energy by optimally scheduling the appliances in the residential building. The appliances are scheduled so as to work during the off-peak hours when the tariff is comparatively low. The controller schedules the appliances during the considerable hours of operation after checking the availability of the grid, solar and battery energy. The Energy Management Controller provides an excellent energy efficient and environmental friendly buildings.
