Abstract
One of the most abiding anxieties about contemporary celebrity culture is that it encourages the emulation of impossible or unsuitable role models. While moralists on the right and left denounce the inculcation of false values, absurd ambition and political misjudgement supposedly caused by celebrity imitation, film scholars have defended the creativity in fans’ mimetic responses to the stars they admire.
