Nessi intertestuali tra la novella del Decameron su Guido Cavalcanti e il decimo canto dell’Inferno nella Commedia di Dante / Intertextual links between the short story about Guido Cavalcanti in the Decameron and the tenth canto of Inferno in Dante’s Comedy

Abstract

Riassunto: Con questo articolo si vuole proporre una lettura intertestuale della nona novella della sesta giornata del Decameron di Giovanni Boccaccio, che vede protagonista il poeta e filosofo Guido Cavalcanti. A una lettura attenta della novella sono emersi molti e decisivi elementi di contatto tra questa e il decimo canto dell’Inferno nella Commedia di Dante, tanto da far pensare a un debito creativo diretto dell’autore della novella dal canto summenzionato. Il protagonismo del filosofo nonché amico di Dante nella novella del Decameron sembra infatti dialogare con l’evocazione che ne fa il padre, Cavalcante de’ Cavalcanti, nel canto degli eretici. In questo articolo si vuole investigare la complessa intertestualità esistente tra i due testi anche alla luce della condanna all’eresia epicurea e averroista che sembrerebbe interessare padre e figlio. Abstract: This article intends to propose an intertextual reading of the ninth tale of the sixth day of Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron , which has the poet and philosopher Guido Cavalcanti as protagonist. A careful reading of the short story revealed many decisive elements of contact between it and the tenth canto of the Inferno in Dante’s Comedy , so much so as to suggest a direct creative debt of the author of the short story from the aforementioned canto. The protagonism of the philosopher and friend of Dante in the tale of the Decameron seems in fact to dialogue with the evocation made by his father, Cavalcante de’ Cavalcanti, in the canto of the heretics. In this article we want to investigate the complex intertextuality existing between the two texts also in the light of the condemnation of the Epicurean or perhaps Averroist heresy which would seem to involve father and son.
