The overall objective of this research was to examine how the lack of reading habits and vocabulary is affecting academic performance. The justification for this article is based on the identification of these main problems freshmen are facing, and how there issues are affecting the academic performance of students at the university level. Is importan to recognize the importance of the parents in the acquisition of good reading habits. Abstract

The main idea to publish this article is to recognize the importance of a lack of reading habits and vocabulary; as an essential aspect to having good communication, especially when people start to learn a new language, in this case, English as a second language.
