Abstract
Electrophile-initiated nucleophilic cyclization of 2-alkynylthiobenzimidazoles is a useful tool for synthesizing new heterocyclic systems. However, halogen-initiated cyclization demonstrates poor selectivity between electrophilic addition and substitution reactions using other imidazole analogues.
