However, it also has potential risks such as spreading fake and plagiarized content and in the long term can affect the research ethics and integrity. Abstract

Objectives: The study aims to assess the role of ChatGPT in academics and to explore the potential risks of using chat GPT in academia. Methods: The study has used a descriptive research design by following a qualitative method using the secondary data. Various studies, researches, websites and reports on AI have been analysed to achieve the objective of the study. Results: It has been assessed that ChatGPT is being used for various purposes in education and research.
