Tingkatan proses berpikir dalam buku ajar pada akhirnya ikut mempengaruhi perkembangan peserta didik dalam berpikir. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memetakan muatan Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) dalam soal di buku ajar Bahasa Indonesia SMP Kelas VII karya Rakhma Subarna, Sofie Dewayani, dan C. Erni Setyowati terbitan Kemendikbudristek tahun 2021. Analisis data dilakukan dengan tiga tahapan, pengumpulan data, penyajian, dan penarikan simpulan. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan teknik membaca intensif, pembacaan secara mendalam dan berulang. Dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa muatan HOTS dalam soal buku ajar Bahasa Indonesia Kelas VII mencapai 72% dengan tingkatan proses berpikir (C4) 51%, (C5) 38%, dan (C6) 11%. Selain itu, sebaran HOTS berdasarkan KKO di buku ajar Bahasa Indonesia Kelas VII ini meliputi menganalisis (C4.1), membandingkan (C4.2), menguraikan atau memerinci (C4.3), mengelompokkan atau mengategorikan (C4.4), dan menyimpulkan (C4.5). Kemudian, menilai atau mengomentari (C5.1), menyunting atau mengoreksi (C5.2), memprediksi atau menduga (C5.3), dan memilih (C5.4). Lalu, menciptakan (C6.1), merancang (C6.2), dan meningkatkan (C6.3). Soal HOTS di buku ajar Bahasa Indonesia SMP Kelas VII terbitan Kemendikbudristek tahun 2021 di dominasi oleh soal pada level atau tingkatan menganalisis (C4). The level of thinking process in the textbook ultimately influences the development of students' thinking. The purpose of this research is to map the content of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the exercises within the textbook Indonesian Language for Grade VII Junior High School by Rakhma Subarna, Sofie Dewayani, and C. Erni Setyowati, published by the Kemendikbudristek in 2021. Data analysis is conducted in three stages: data collection, presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data is collected using intensive reading techniques, in-depth and repeated readings. The findings of this study indicate that the content of HOTS in the exercises of the textbook Indonesian Language for Grade VII Junior High School reaches 72%, with a level of thinking processes (C4) 51%, (C5) 38 %, and (C6) 11%. In addition, the distribution of HOTS based on operational verbs (KKO) in this textbook Indonesian Language for Grade VII Junior High School includes analyze (C4.1), compare (C4.2), decribe or detail (C4.3), group or categorize (C4.4), and conclude (C4.5). Then, rate or comment (C5.1), edit or correct (C5.2), predict or surmise (C5.3), and choose (C5.4). Then, create (C6.1), designing (C6.2), and increase (C6.3). The HOTS questions in the textbook Indonesian Language for Grade VII Junior High School published by Kemendikbudristek in 2021 are dominated by questions at the analyzing level (C4).
