Whereas the virulence of <i>Y. pestis</i> now seems in apparent homoeostasis within its flea transmission cycle, substantial evolutionary changes that affect transmission and disease severity continue to ndergo apparent selective pressure within the other <i>Yersiniae</i> that cause intestinal diseases.
