Hospital-at-Home Units Coming On Strong: What Physician Leaders Need to Know

Abstract

Hospital-at-home units are proliferating under the Medicare waiver, issued during the public health emergency and extended into 2024, which allows hospitals to be paid the same for care delivered at a patient’s home as in an inpatient setting. Leaders in the hospital-at-home movement find the at-home units require significant resources, but they generate high satisfaction from clinicians and patients alike and reduce the need to build more inpatient facilities.
