Abstract
A newly-developed high-resolution regional model of the Kara Sea was used to carry out numerical experiments aimed to study the dynamics and thermodynamics of the Kara Sea, as well as the evolution of river plumes and the influence of river runoff on the simulated thermohaline structure of waters. It has been found that the use of a daily-mean river runoff forcing in the model provides a model solution that is closer to the observed distribution of temperature and salinity compared to specifying a climatic monthly-mean river runoff.
