This may result from or be the consequence of several factors including statin-induced inhibition of coenzyme Q<sub>10</sub> (CoQ<sub>10</sub>) biosynthesis, impaired Ca<sup>2+</sup> signalling and modified reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation.
