Abstract

On top of geopolitical tensions and resulting supply chain disruptions, companies are increasingly challenged to meet policy standards for the circular economy. One promising approach is extending the principles of Shared Production to the product lifecycle. This allows the implementation of a Digital Product Passport using Gaia-X principles in  combination with the Asset Administration Shell.  Distributed hosted submodels allow a service provider to access specific product data in an interoperable way. This approach is placed in the context of current research and  demonstrated using a practical example of Scope 3 carbon footprint calculation.
