This research provides the current state of prison according to technology-organization-environment (TOE). Some challenges arise in the context of TOE, such as the high cost of smart technology, inadequate technology design, poor management, ineffective service, overcrowding, ageing facilities, increasing violence, disease spread, and ethical problems. This study also classifies smart prison technology based on the internet of things (IoT) architecture layer.
