Abstract

The 1970s and 1980s marked a significant period of advancement in non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, particularly ultrasonic testing (UT) and eddy current testing (ET). Some of the strongest drivers for this were the needs of the civil nuclear power industry. This paper explores the historical developments during this era, highlighting the challenges faced by the nuclear industry and the subsequent innovations that emerged.
