These “Black taxes” have physical and emotional effects, leading to racial battle fatigue. Tokenism influences students’ professional development and identity, perpetuating characteristics like hypervisibility and imposter syndrome. Transforming PWIs requires challenging white supremacist structures and prioritizing equity. Abstract
