Abstract

In order to improve the tribological properties of alloy coatings, the Ni60WC was added into the NiCoCrAlY coating by laser cladding. The effects of Ni60WC mass fraction on the coefficients of friction and wear rates of NiCoCrAlY–xNi60WC coatings at 500 °C were investigated using a ball–on–disc wear tester, and the wear mechanism of WC in the wear process was also discussed. The results show that the average coefficients of friction of NiCoCrAlY–15 %, −30 %, and −45%Ni60WC coatings in the stable wear period are reduced by 8.8 %, 14.7 %, and 20.6 %, respectively, compared with the NiCoCrAlY–0%Ni60WC coating, and the corresponding wear rates are decreased by 28.5 %, 55.1 %, and 70.8 %, respectively, showing that the friction reduction and wear resistance of NiCoCrAlY–xNi60WC coatings are increased with the Ni60WC mass fraction. The wear mechanism is adhesive wear and oxidative wear, which is attributed to the hardness improvement of NiCoCrAlY–xNi60WC coating by the addition of Ni60WC.

This journal is a platform for publishing innovative research and overviews for advancing our understanding of the structure, property, and functionality of complex metallic alloys, including intermetallics, metallic glasses, and high entropy alloys. The journal reports the science and engineering of metallic materials in the following aspects: Theories and experiments which address the relationship between property and structure in all length scales. Physical modeling and numerical simulations which provide a comprehensive understanding of experimental observations. Stimulated methodologies to characterize the structure and chemistry of materials that correlate the properties. Technological applications resulting from the understanding of property-structure relationship in materials. Novel and cutting-edge results warranting rapid communication. The journal also publishes special issues on selected topics and overviews by invitation only.
